Aim the sparks down into the inflammable material. Once the fire has become established, build it up slowly by gradually adding thin pieces of material, building up to thicker ones until your fire reaches the desired size. The knife was developed by Captains Fairbairn and Sykes in 1940. They had both served with the Shanghai Municipal Police and were experienced in martial arts which influenced the type of knife they considered the Commandos needed.
